  14. Stunning images from around the world in SuperVGA color!  A coded puzzle 
  15. game, for those who find ordinary puzzle games too easy.  Multiple levels 
  16. of difficulty.  Hall of fame for your best scores.  Save puzzles, solution 
  17. hints, simple mouse interface, and much more!  Designed to use all major 
  18. SVGA boards with VESA drivers in 800 x 600 mode, but also will work on VGA.    
  19. All puzzles are original photography, especially selected for these puzzles.

  21. Due to space limitations, the puzzles with the distributed shareware 
  22. version work only in VGA 320x200 mode or EGA 16 color mode.  An SVGA image 
  23. is available as a separate file PUZSVG.ZIP.

  31.          VESA compatible BIOS or TSR driver installed

  33.       SuperVGA Puzzle automatically makes use of EMS or XMS memory if it 
  34. finds it.  Drivers such as QEMM or EMM386 are recommended.  If you also use 
  35. windows, be sure that memory is available to DOS programs.

  38. πSOLVING A PUZZLEπ
  39.  
  40. The main menu lets you choose the display type you want to use.  Separate 
  41. puzzle images are provided for each type, so that best use can be made of 
  42. the VGA and SVGA formats.
  43.  
  44. CRYPTIK comes with several puzzles, and you can purchase more later. 
  45. When you choose a puzzle, you then can decide how many pieces you want.  At 
  46. first, try the default values, then experiment.  
  47.  
  48. The puzzle you choose is encoded to show squares containing its major 
  49. colors, then the pieces are jumbled. The program then prepares the puzzle 
  50. for you.  You need to match the colors to restore the image. You'll see the 
  51. original Use the left mouse button to click on a piece.  Move the mouse, and 
  52. press the right button to place the piece.  Several things may happen: 
  53.  
  54. 1. If it's the correct piece, you'll hear a short confirming sound, and the 
  55. cursor shifts to the piece that was shifted. 
  56.  
  57. 2. If the current piece is incorrect, but you bumped a piece to the correct 
  58. position, you'll hear a different sound.
  59.  
  60. 3. If neither piece is now correctly place, the cursor remains in the new 
  61. place. 
  62.  
  63. 4. If both the moving and bumped pieces are now in their correct positions, 
  64. you'll hear a double confirmation.  No piece is actively selected.
  65.  
  66. 5. If you try to move a piece to a position that already has a correct piece 
  67. in it, you'll get a beep.
  68.  
  69. Continue to pick up and place pieces until the puzzle's done.  Too simple? 
  70. Try again, but use a 30 by 40 piece puzzle this time!  When you complete a 
  71. puzzle, you'll get a score based on the number of moves you made, and the 
  72. number of pieces involved.  You lose points for peeking at the whole image, 
  73. or using the automatic placement features (F7, F8).  These penalties are 
  74. small, though.

  76. There are some additional aids you can get by using the function keys:

  100. You can save any puzzle by pressing F10.  This writes a small file to your 
  101. disk that remembers your current position. You can start from this point, by 
  102. choosing Saved Puzzles from the main menu.  
  103.  
  104. The saved puzzle format uses the .SVC extension. It does not contain the 
  105. actual image.  Only one puzzle can be saved for each name. However, you can 
  106. easily save additional puzzles by renaming the files or moving them to 
  107. another directory.  Remember to rename them before using.

  110. πERRORS & SETUPπ
  111. Due to the bewildering array of possible combinations of SuperVGA cards, 
  112. monitors and computers, you may encounter a problem in setup that we were 
  113. unable to test. If you do, the following may be helpful.  If you still have 
  114. difficulties, contact us by phone (see registration form), or on CompuServe. 
  115.  
  116. The following are some common problems, and solutions: (We assume that you 
  117. have an SVGA card if you're trying to use an SVGA image.  If you have only 
  118. a VGA or EGA card, you cannot use these images.)
  119.  
  120.  σ *** Program won't run -- σ 
  121. Type out the file PUZ.LOG to see if there's enough memory.  The program 
  122. requires about 200-400K of memory to run the EGA & VGA versions, about 1 Mb 
  123. to run the SVGA puzzles.  The log shows how much memory is available.  If 
  124. there isnt enough, you may need to adjust the memory managers that you are 
  125. using (this is often the case if you are running Windows, or EMM386).  Check 
  126. your user manuals to be sure that other programs can access the amount of 
  127. memory that you have installed.

  129.  σ *** '*.SVG not valid'  σ 
  130. You dont have any Super VGA files available.  This occurs if you try to run 
  131. the program without obtaining the SuperVGA images.  For space 
  132. considerations, SuperVGA Puzzle is made available in 2 modules.  You should 
  133. be able to run the VGA or EGA version.

  135.  σ *** "Requires Super VGA card. None detected" σ 
  136. No driver for your SVGA card was detected.  Check the documentation and the 
  137. disk that came with your SuperVGA card.  Usually this requires adding a line 
  138. to either your autoexec.bat or config.sys file that loads the SuperVGA 
  139. driver when you start your computer.

  141.  σ *** Screen goes black after choosing a puzzle σ 
  142. Check that you have an extended memory driver installed. (The particular 
  143. device driver must be compatible with the XMS 2.0 specification.  Microsoft 
  144. HIMEM.SYS and or QEMM 6.0 are two examples) . Without these, the program may 
  145. not be able to access the memory it needs.

  151. are furnished solely for use with Cascoly Software programs. Contact Cascoly 
  152. for details on site license and developing puzzles for distribution as part 
  153. of your business advertising or other uses.

  160. Other Formats
  161. -------------
  162. If you have other images you wish to use, you may be able to use them in 
  163. SuperVGA Puzzle.
  164.  
  165. First, you'll need to convert to PCX format.  If you need help doing this, 
  166. contact Cascoly.  Once you have a PCX picture, you just need to change the 
  167. extension to .EGA, .VGA or .SVG depending on the resolution of the picture.

  174. Shareware is a means of distributing software.  Under the shareware concept, 
  175. software may be freely copied and passed along to others, or distributed 
  176. through bulletin board systems or national networks.
